When he’s not writing his own stories, Stuart also runs Obverse Books, a multi award-winning British publisher.
Beginning in 2008, with Iris Wildthyme and the Celestial Omnibus, Obverse has published over 100 books since then and, as well as Iris (a character first seen in the BBC Doctor Who book range), is best known for the Faction Paradox series of science fiction novels, and the Black and Silver Archives, book length monographs on individual stories from Doctor Who and wider genre fiction, respectively.
Obverse has published the likes of Michael Moorcock, Steven Moffat, Paul Magrs and George Mann, and has – via a series of fundraising novels and short story collections – raised tens of thousands of pounds for deserving causes, including foodbanks, Alzheimer’s Research and Planned Parenthood.
In addition to winning two Sir Julius Vogel Awards for the Black Archive, in 2022, the photobook Dark Edinburgh was the recipient of the Scottish Nature Photography Book of the Year.
